VALE - Max Warner 13-09-1934 - 28-07-2017

It is with deep sadness that we advise members of the passing of Max Warner.

Max passed away peacefully on Friday 28 July at Bellbird Hospital in the company of his family, he was age 82.

He devoted a large part of his life to Warner’s Nurseries, and also to the National and Victorian nursery scene.

Max began his career in the family business of Warner’s Nurseries in 1951, which even back then was recognised as a leading grower amongst their peers and the broader horticulture industry. He knew his future was in this industry and undertook studies at Burnley during the evening while working in the nursery during the day. At Burnley he became close friends with the late gardening guru, Kevin Heinze and his career blossomed from there, steering the nursery at Warrigal Road, Burwood and promoting the beautifully grown Warners stock Australia wide. Upon his retirement in 2002 , after 50 years contribution to the business now proudly located at Narre Warren North, Max sold his 1/3 share to his sons Michael and John.

Max took an active part and interest in the Nurserymen and Seedsmen’s Association of Victoria (known to us today as NGIV), acting as President from 1969-1977. He was also Federal President in 1970 and became the inaugural President of the Australian Nurserymen’s Association (now known as NGIA) from 1976-1978. He served on various association committees including the Horticultural Trades Committee.

In recognition of his dedicated service to both the Victorian and National nursery and garden industry, Max was bestowed the honour of Life Membership with both associations.

A legend of the industry, who will be sadly missed.

On behalf of the Nursery & Garden Industry directors, staff and members, condolences are extended to Michael, John and Suzanne, Max’s wife Anne-Marie, and all the extended Warner family.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday August 7th at 2.30pm at St Faiths Anglican Church, Glen Iris (Burwood) with refreshments to follow, venue to be confirmed.
