NGISA Membership Services

NGISA'S Nursery Notes
This is produced on a weekly basis and keeps members informed by e-mail and fax over a wide range of issues.

Education and Training
Regular workshops are held at the TAFE School of Horticulture, Urrbrae. Supported by the Industry Development Officer, Maxima Group Training and senior lecturers, these workshops are designed specifically for the nursery and garden industry and include professional development and business profitability. Priority and special rates are offered to members.

Industrial Relations
NGISA is a registered employer/employee advocate with the SA Industrial Relations Commission and in February 1993 developed the Horticulture Industry (Nursery and Landscape) Award.

South Australian Management Support (SAMS) are the NGISA Industrial Relations Consultants, specialising in industrial relations and human resource management issues. Steve Shearer is the director of SAMS and will provide one half hour free consultation on industrial issues and a special rate of $120 per hour for all other issues. SAMS will also provide an update on all award changes relating to the following awards:

  • Horticulture Industry (Nursery and Landscape) Award;
  • Retail Industry (South Australia) Award; and
  • Clerks (SA) Award.

Specialist Interest Groups
On joining the association NGISA members are automatically included in an interest group. The members of these groups have the opportunity to meet, network and discuss common interests. The current NGISA interest groups are:

  • Allied Trade Group (includes hardware/green life retailers and landscapers);
  • Bedding Plants Australia (SA) Group;
  • Green Life Producers Group; and
  • Owner Operated Garden Centres Group.

Garden Shows
NGISA endorses a major gardening and lifestyle event each year which provides an opportunity for retailers, wholesalers, landscapers and other allied garden industries to present their products to the public. Generous discounts on site fees are offered to NGISA members.

Trade Day
Trade Day is a vital feature within the NGISA network where wholesalers display, promote and sell their products to the retailers. Exhibitors include green life growers, allied traders, manufacturing agents and affiliated industries. Trade Day is strictly 'trade only' and is held on a regular basis. Only registered businesses and/or organisations are eligible to participate.

Awards of Excellence
NGISA's premier promotion acknowledges the industry's highest achievers and all members are eligible to enter. The awards are presented annually in November at what has become the Industry's most prestigious social event.
