About this workshop
EcoHort™ is the Environmental Management System (EMS) for the Australian nursery industry. Developed by the industry and recognised by all levels of government, EcoHort™ is the industry’s preferred tool for assessing and managing environmental risks.
The activities covered in this workshop support production nurseries and growing media manufacturers to improve production and demonstrate sound environmental practice. Participants will be introduced to EcoHort™ and its certification process and undertake practical activities that will assist with the implementation of EcoHort™ in their own nurseries.
This cost effective workshop is ideal for nursery owners and managers who understand the importance of managing the environmental risks to business in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Workshop outcomes
At the completion of the workshop participants will be able to:
- Describe the value of implementing an environmental management system ( EMS) in their business
- Describe how EcoHort™ is used to assess and manage environmental risks
- Use the EcoHort™ Risk Assessment Checklist and Action Plan
- Develop a business plan to enhance environmental performance
- Manage environmental impacts
- Manage systems to record and report environmental impacts and opportunities
- Evaluate the environmental performance of their business

- The purpose and benefits of using EcoHort™ - a useful tool for managing EMS in the nursery and garden industry
- The EcoHort™ process including:
- Determining a 'business' environmental policy
- Identifying and managing different environmental risks
- Setting up an action plan

Decision-makers who would like to gain a better understanding of Environmental Management Systems and the benefits for their nursery businesses. This may include business owners, production managers and technical specialists.
