At the NGIA Annual General Meeting held in Victoria last month Darryl South & Teena Sandford – Owners and Directors of Darwin Plant Wholesalers – were voted in as NGIA Life Members.
This is a unique position as it is recognized in most businesses the principle partner is engaged in Industry affairs and makes the contributions that see them recognised while they all admit; they would not have been able to make those contributions without the support of their wife and partner. With Darryl and Teena their contribution has been a joint effort.
Darryl and Teena have been involved with the industry at several levels for many years. Their nursery business is well known throughout Australia and the Middle East, and both individuals have made major contributions to the industry via their involvement and representation on National Boards and committees.
“Both Teena and I are most grateful of this wonderful award, and most humbled that so many members have seen fit to vote for us. We love our industry, even though things don’t always work out, but that’s the nature of our business, “Green life”,” said Darryl South on receiving news of this prestigious award.
May I encourage all those young people in the Industry to pursue the things they believe in. When I was a young man(gorilla) going to conferences, I always looked up to the Leaders in our industry, people like Jack Pike, Ben Swane, John Lascock and others, they always had a hand out to help, that’s the way we all got on, it does not have to be all hard core, he added.
