International agreement signed by leading water efficiency organisations
National water conservation bodies the savewater!® Alliance (Australia), Waterwise UK and the Alliance for Water Efficiency (USA) have joined forces to form the International Federation for Water Efficiency (IFWE).
IFWE is a central global body focused on establishing and sharing best practice across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific Regions.
IFWE will undertake water conservation and efficiency projects that will benefit the global water community, with the agreement focused on:
- undertaking water conservation projects that will benefit developing and underdeveloped countries
- sharing water efficiency project results and solutions
- standardising global definitions and nomenclatures used in the water sector
- compiling and maintaining a central database of best practice in water efficiency
- sharing information and assisting promotion of water efficient products
- developing water efficiency resources that have value throughout the world.
Mr Nigel Finney, CEO of the savewater!® Alliance sees IFWE as an excellent platform for developing and communicating the very best in knowledge and new products to all countries, “It is integral that there is a central body to establish best practice and consistency throughout the industry, and IFWE will provide an opportunity to combine the finest resources from Australia, the UK and the USA.” he said.
Mrs Mary Ann Dickenson Executive Director of Alliance for Water Efficiency is delighted to participate in this important international partnership, “It makes sense for us to work together to achieve greater collective success in our water conservation programs.” she said.
Jacob Tompkins Managing Director of Waterwise UK also believes there is benefit from collaboration, “There is a lot that we can learn from Australia and America as they have been practicing water efficiency for years and have run some very successful campaigns.
“With our growing population, increased water use and large amounts of energy contributing to heating water in the home there is an increasing need for water efficiency in the UK.” he said.
The savewater!® Alliance, welcomes the agreement and looks forward to working together with Waterwise UK and the Alliance for Water Efficiency in the USA.
