About this Workshop?

The emphasis of this one day interactive workshop is to provide practical information on how to look for and recognise pests in the nursery. This session also introduces the concept of integrated pest management (IPM).

Workshop outcomes

On the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the relevant terminology used in pest management
  • Recognise key plant pests in the workplace
  • Recognise beneficials and understand their key role in pest management
  • Use relevant monitoring techniques for recognising pests in the workplace
  • Keep appropriate records
  • Use appropriate resources to assist in recognising and monitoring pests
Workshop outline

The workshop includes:

  • An Introduction to terms used in Pest Management, including integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Recognising key plant pests
    • Key nursery pests
    • Key nursery diseases
    • Weeds in nurseries
  • Recognising and understanding the role of beneficials
  • Basic monitoring techniques and equipment
  • What records should be kept and how the information will be useful strategy as part of the pest management

Session length

1 day (8:30am – 4:30pm) Refreshment & Lunch provided


Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for people responsible for maintaining plant health, who work in the various sectors of the nursery and garden industry including production, retail, landscaping and allied trades.

This workshop is the first of a series of three relating to Pest & Diseases in the Nursery and Garden Industry. - No prerequisite required
